Bike Ride

These are some pictures that I took on two different bike rides along the same route along the huron river. Pretty decent ride although both times I've done it there's been a nasty headwind. This is a view from one part of the road.
Its tought to see but there's a white bird over in the shallow part of the river. I'm not sure what kind of bird it is but it reminded me of a blue heron.
This is a view from the bridge in the picture below. It looks like it was just finished. Thought it was a pretty neat bridge, made entirely of iron.
Its a pretty nice bike ride. About 12 miles out and 12 miles back. Today was freezing, had to wear the long sleeve jersey and leg warmers and its still August! The roads here in michigan are also not being very friendly with my bike. Have some maintenance to do now...

Welcome to Ann Arbor

Thought I'd post some random pictures I took riding around Ann Arbor my fourth day here. This is the helicopter on the sweet landing pad at the hospital.

The hospital is pretty large. Nice to know its there if I mess myself up.
The dental school is right across the street from the chemistry building. Took a picture for Chang's sake.
This is the sign out in front of the chemistry building. The building itself is not too exciting besides the fact that is pretty much a maze.
Finally that brings us to the scarily tame obese red squirrels on campus. This one started to chase me when I stopped so I decided to take a picture of it. I think he thought I was going to feed him. I could have reached out and pet him or her I couldn't tell if this squirrel had any nuts.

toying with aperture

These two pictures are before and after shots of what I did to change a picture with aperture 2.0. I thought it was pretty neat. The shot is of a sunset off the deck of my family's cabin in New Hampshire. The second shot is pretty close to what it actually looked like and the first is my enhanced version. I did this in about 5 minutes. Makes me think you really can't trust what you see anymore.

Cascades

This is just one of the pictures I took recently in New Hampshire. Its of the cascades seen on the Tuckerman's Ravine Trail on Mount Washington. I played with the shutter speeds on my new camera to get the cool water effect. Next year I think I'll head back to hike Washington again. Its been so long.

Camera Fun

Finally finished with graduate school. It was hard work but way worth it. Been playing with my camera a bit and thought these two shots were neat. Both were taken on a rainy day in PA with my telephoto lens. Haven't quite mastered depth of field yet (trying out some new photo vocab) but still think they're neat.

Long Time

Its been a long time since a post but I figured I'd start updating again to follow the sprint towards the finish of my PhD.  Mostly to practice my writing, as I've been inspired by the absolutely atrocious grammar present in the lab reports I'm grading currently.
Anyway I've been trying to enjoy my last year in NC and recently it snowed the most that it has ever snowed here in North Carolina in the last five years.  Seeing as I'm still like a little kid and got completely distracted at work I took some pictures of the campus in the snow (a truly rare occurrence).  Here's one of the better ones of the clock tower taken right outside the chemistry building.

This is a picture out the window of the plane when I was flying from Dulles back to Raleigh. The weather was pretty bad but it was kind of sweet as the sun was setting the whole flight back and we were between two cloud layers. I was bored so I took a bunch of pictures. At one point there was a thunderstorm we went around but I never caught any lightning that I was seeing in any pictures. The guy next to me was definitely a white knuckle flyer and not enjoying it as much.

Vail Panorama

So the above image looks like crap but click on it. I made it using a feature on my new camera called stitch assist and then some sweet software that came with it. I did one for the back view of vail too but never got the time to do a full 360 degree view.

Back Bowl

On the second day of skiing the weather wasn't quite as great although it snowed pretty much all day ensuring the skiing conditions stayed really good all day. This is a shot of one of the back bowls from one directly across. Definitely the coolest place I've ever skied as there are really no trails and you just pick a line and go. You don't really get an idea of just how big the bowls are from this shot. There are actually skiers on the other side there but they're just specs. I was taking a break halfway down. Only did a couple runs back here as Dad and little bro didn't want to brave it and I wasn't keen on skiing by myself back there all day. At one point I went 10 minutes without seeing another skier. Want to get back to Vail again ASAP.

Perfect Weather

This is just a shot again from the top of one of Vail's peaks straight off into the distance. The weather the first day was fantastic. You could see forever.

Vail

This is a view off the top of one of the mountains at Vail. I got to go skiing with my dad and my brother after the ACS conference compliments of Sun. I think I might move out west as I'm ruined for skiing in the east any more.
